Sena-BJP retains Mumbai, Konkan Graduates constituencies

Mumbai, June 26 (UNI) Shiv Sena-BJP combine succeeded in maintaining their strongholds intact in Mumbai and Konkan Graduates Constituencies respectively.

While Shiv Sena candidate Dr Deepak Sawant won from the Mumbai Graduates Constituency, the BJP did so in Konkan Graduates constituency.

In Mumbai, Sena candidates Dr Deepak Sawant won the seat by securing 20,055 votes. Independent candidate Atulkumar Shah secured 9,606 votes while Congress candidate Amarjeet Manhas was trailing behind.

Besides, BJP candidate Sanjay Kelkar polled over 16,000 votes while his nearest rival Nilesh Chavan of NCP received nearly 14,000 votes. Ashok Modak, was the outgoing BJP MLC from this constituency which he represented for three terms.

However, the Shiv Sena-BJP supported candidate of Madhyamik Shikshak Parishad Suresh Upadhye, could not retain the seat which was won by Sanjivani Raikar for the last three terms.

Journalist-turned-politician Kapil Patil of Lok Bharati won the seat by scoring 3,682 votes while Balasaheb Mhatre of Congress got 2,495 votes. Mr Upadhye was in the fourth position.

Sena veteran Pramod Navalkar had won from the Mumbai graduates constituency for three terms since 1988.
