Punjab Cabinet approves Reliance project

Chandigarh, June 26 (UNI) The Punjab government today approved the Rs 5000 crore mega project of the Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) to set-up Rural Business Hubs (RBHs), to boost the wilting agrarian economy of the border state.

Under this project RIL will establish 50 RHBs, 300 Satellite RBHs, 20 agricultural processing units, hyper markets and 10,000 retail outlets.

This decision was taken at a meeting of the Council of Ministers held here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

When implemented, the project would cover 80 per cent farmers in the state. The project aims to procure nine lakh tonnes of grains for domestic and overseas marketing, grow/process two lakh tonnes of horticulture produce and procure and process seven lakh litres of milk per day.

The marketing and processing business would be spread over three lakh acres.

The project would begin with an initial investment of Rs 500 crore, which would go up to Rs 5000 crore in 3-5 years and it would generate direct and indirect employment for 30,000 persons.
