Shillong, Jun 26 (UNI) In protest against Meghalaya government's delay in judicial probe into the firing incident on September 30 last year, the Federation of A'chik Freedom (FAF) has called for a one day ceasework tomorrow in all government establishments in Garo Hills.

FAF president Mac D Shira told UNI over telephone that the decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held today while reviewing the government decision to file affidavits and seek more time from the Commission of Enquiry.

Mr Shira alleged that the government's plan was to fog public memory of the twin incidents in Garo Hills.

Earlier, the West Garo Hills district administration had moved Gauhati High Court that it would submit its evidence only after the cross-examination of the witnesses from the public side, while East Garo Hills district administration sought another six months time for completion of the probe.

On September 30 last year, nine lives were lost in police firing at Tura and Williamnagar over the issue of revamping and restructuring the Meghalaya Board of School of Education having its headquarters at Tura, West Garo Hills district.

The government was forced to constitute a judicial probe into the twin incident after being pressurised from all fronts in the state.
