Manmohan to visit Vidarbha from June 30
New Delhi, June 26: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be visiting Vidarbha in Maharashtra for three days from June 30 to see for himself the plight of farmers,the Congress said here today.
During his three-day tour, the Prime Minister will visit Amravati and Yawatmal, where a large number of farmers have committed suicide due to heavy financial debt.
The Prime Minister is expected to announce a package for the distressed farmers during his tour, party spokesman Rajeev Shukla said.
Replying to a question, Mr Shukla said the Prime Minister had always been sensitive to the needs of the farmers. He recalled that when the news about some suides by debt-ridden farmers in Andhra Pradesh broke, the Prime Minister had undertaken a visit to the state and announced a package for the benefit of farmers.
''Whenever the Prime Minister receives reports of any suicide by farmers, he certainly visits the State concerned,'' he noted.
