Monsoon still away, rains cool state

Jaipur, June 26 (UNI) The much-awaited monsoon is yet to arrive in the state although the scattered, periodic showers have brought down the temperature by almost two to three degrees here.

The weather office recorded 14.2 mm rains here today till 0830 hrs in the morning. But the resulting humidity has left the people perspiring. The maximum temperature was 38 degree Celsius and the minimum 25 degrees here at 1300 hrs.

Padampura, about 20 km from here, where Congress President Mrs Sonia Gandhi, is scheduled to inaugurate and address the party's 'political training camp' is witnessing showers at present.

Meanwhile, Barmer recorded 39.1 mm rains, Dholpur 2.6 mm, Bundi 1 mm, Mount Abu 5.4 mm, Bharatpur 1 mm and places like Ajmer, Jodhpur received only traces of rains till 0830 hrs this morning.

However, the heavy showers that lashed the city yesterday for over an hour waterlogging streets were due to upper cyclonic circulation and should not be considered as arrival of monsoon, said weather officials said.

The weather office predicted scattered rain along with thunder in southern Rajasthan and forecast cloudy skies with rains and dust-storms in northern Rajasthan over the next 24 hours.
