Monsoon brings scattered rainfall

Hyderabad, June 26 (UNI) The South-West monsoon, which entered a weak phase after early onset, brought scattered rainfall in all the three regions of Andhra Pradesh today.

The monsoon, after a lull since June eight, became vigorous last week.

Rainfall activity lessened in intensity, bringing isolated rain over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Rayalaseema in the last 24 hours, Hyderabad Met Centre Director Satya Kumar told UNI.

The monsoon was likely to become active again in the next two to three days, he said, adding, light to moderate rain/thundershowers were likely to occur at a few places over all the three regions of the state. Rain/thundershowers were likely in the State capital too.

Scanty rains since early this month sparked off anxiety in farmers and the Andhra Pradesh Government directed officials to organise special prayers in temples across the state to seek divine help to avoid a bad 'kharif' crop this season.

The chief amounts of rainfall recorded in cm were Narsipatnam, Peddapuram, Suryapet 4 each, Banswada, Mandasa 3 each, Guntur, Srungavarapukota 2 each and Kakinada, Nizamabad, Amalapuram, Atmakur, Kadiri, Madnoor, Ramannapet, Tekkali, one each.
