KLNLF attacks UPDS leader's residence

Diphu, Jun 26 (UNI) Suspected KLNLF militants in a bid to jeopardise peace initiatives with the Centre made an abortive attempt to kill an UPDS leader in Asom today.

Police said the KLNLF ultras threw a grenade at the residence of UPDS joint home secretary Tanongloda at Jilangcha village in Asom's Karbi Anglong district at about 0200 hours.

The grenade missed the target and burst in front of the house.

No one was injured as the residents were on a visit to Diphu.

The house was partially damaged in the blast, police added.

The KLNLF had targeted the UPDS leader to disrupt the ongoing peace process between the UPDS and the Centre.

The UPDS is in a ceasefire with the Centre while the KLNLF has refused to sit at the negotiation table.
