Chennai, June 26 (UNI) Union Petroleum Minister Murli Deora today announced that oil major Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) would set up a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal at Ennore port here.
Addressing a function, to the Chennai-Tiruchi-Madurai petroleum product pipeline of the IOC, he said IOC had seized the proposal to set up the terminal of 2.5 MMTPA capacity with the provision for expansion to 5.0 MMTPA.
The techno-commercial feasibility study has been completed and suitable land adjacent to the Ennore Port had already been identified.

''The requirement of gas has been highlighted by several MPs of the state and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi also mentioned about the need to ensure supply of gas to the state. We will undertake all endeavours to ensure that Tamil Nadu gets the benefit of the recent gas finds in the Krishna-Godavary basin,'' Mr Deora said.
He appealed to the people of the state to lead the country in oil conservation and alternative fuel technology.
