Foeticide: K'taka govt to set up monitoring committees
Bangalore, June 26 (UNI) The Karnataka Government will constitute monitoring committees in all districts to prevent female foeticide, Health Minister R Ashok informed the Legislative Council today.
Replying to a question raised by Congress member Mallajamma in this regard, he said no reports had been received regarding incidents of female foeticide in the state. However, the government had decided to set up monitoring committees, under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioners, to prevent the menace.
He said stringent action would be taken against nursing homes conducting sex determination tests.
The minister said to improve the sex ratio in the state, the government had initiated several measures, including providing incentives to families having female babies and free education.
