Eight killed due to lightning ; dry spell in parts of country

New Delhi, Jun 26 (UNI) Eight people were killed due to lightning and one was drowned, while the South-West monsoon has been active in southern India today.

According to reports from Jamnagar in Gujarat, three persons, including a girl, lost their lives in rain related incidents at three different places in the last 24 Hours.

Of the three deaths, two were caused by lightnings while one by drowning in a nullah.

Reports from Lucknow say that at least three people, including two women, were killed and as many injured after lightning struck them following heavy rainfall.

In Bihar, three members of a family were killed due to lightning at Rampur Chore village in Bihar's Rohtas district.

The national capital remained hot and humid.

The maximum temperature was at 36.6 degree celsius while the minimum was 24.8 degrees, the met office said.

The department forecast a generally cloudy sky with rain/ thundershowers in some areas. The maximum temperature was expected to be around 37 degree celsius.

Hot weather conditions persisted in Punjab, Haryana and the Union Territory of Chandigarh even as the mercury hovered one degree to two degrees celsius below normal at most places in the plains.

Scorching heat prevailed in Haryana with Hissar recording 39.9 degrees , one degree below normal. The mercury, however, settled at 37.0 degrees, two degrees below normal, at Ambala.
