DVC to provide electricity to 10,000 villages in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Jun 26 (UNI) Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) will provide electricity to 10,000 villages under Rajiv Gandhi Vidutikaran Yojna by 2008 in Jharkhand.

The initiaves for electrifying the villages of eight districts of the state would be taken in August this year, Chairman of DVC A K Burman told newsmen here today.

Mr Burman said the first phase electrification would start in the rural areas of Dhanbad, Koderma and Bokaro district and after three months remaining five districts - Giridih, Chatra, Simdega, Gumla and Hazaribagh would be covered.

The scheme would cost about Rs 1000 crore.

The Chairman after meeting Chief Minister Arjun Munda announced social mission of DVC.

He said DVC's social mission would include develomental, environmental and health -related issues.

Even issues like soil erosion and pollution control was in the agenda of the mission.

Mr Burman said the Corporation has made a plan to develop tourism with the public and private participation in Jharkhand.
