Srinagar, June 26 : Doodhpathri and Toshmaidan in central Kashmir's Badgam district would be developed and promoted as the Valley's major tourist destinations on the pattern of famous resorts of Pahalgam and Gulmarg.

This was stated by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad during his visit to Doodhpathri.

Mr Azad said the state government had already set up Tourism Development Authority for Doodhpathri and appointed its Chief Executive Officer.

He asserted that adequate and modernised tourist infrastructure would be put in place to develop Doodhpathri, Toshmaidan and other such beautiful spots in the district considering their high tourist potential.

The Chief Minister announced improvement and upgradation of Khansahib-Doodhpathri and Basantwudar-Doodhpathri roads.

He also said mini-hydel projects would be set up on Sukhnag and Shaliganga streams flowing in the area.

This, Mr Azad said, would help in enhancing the power availability and open up new avenues for development, economic activity and generate job opportunities in the area.

The Chief Minister also had an aerial survey of Toshmaidan and other spots in the district with a view to devise appropriate strategies for developing these as major tourist destinations.
