DMK convenor condemns attempt on party functionary's life

Pondicherry, Jun 26 (UNI) DMK Convenor and Former Chief Minister R V Janakiraman today condemned the alleged attempt on the life of party Embalom Constituency Secretary Selvam.

In a statement here today, Mr Janakiraman said due to enmity in the local body elections, certain anti-social elements had threatened to kill Mr Selvam.

Though a complaint was lodged with the police, no action was initiated and the police allowing such elements to go free under the pretext of 'compromise' would only worsen the situation, he said.

It is natural that every party worked for the victory of its candidate in a democracy. But the attempt to get rid of a person cannot be tolerated, he said.

He urged the administration to immediately bring the culprits to book and provide adequate police protection to Mr Selvam.
