Congress stages dharna in Council for second day

Bangalore, June 26 (UNI) The main Oppposition Congress continued its dharna in the Karnataka Legislative Council for the second day today, demanding the immediate appointment of an Administrator to the Bellary City Corporation, the term of which has expired.

As soon as the House assembled at 0100 hrs, the Opposition members trooped to the well of the House and contiuned their dharna.

Leader of the Opposition H K Patil said the term of the Bellary City Corporation had ended on June 12 last and there was no provision under law to extend the term of the elected body.

Higher Education Minister and floor leader D H Shankaramurthy urged Council Chairman Sachidanand Khot not to allow a discussion on the issue as the matter was sub-judice.

The Chairman adjourned the House for lunch, with the Congress sticking to its demand and staging dharna.
