Cong leader killed in AP

Warangal, Andhra Pradesh, Jun 26 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Co-option Member and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constitutency (ZPTC) Mandal Rebel Candidate K Ilaiah was murdered by unidentified persons at Gudur in the district this morning.

Police said Mr Ilaiah, who had come to Gudur yesterday for campaigning, was staying at the Congress office when some persons barged in and killed him in the early hours of today.

Irate followers of the deceased leader attacked Gudur Police Station injuring a police official and setting ablaze a two-wheeler.

Police clamped Sec 144 in Gudur where police had to resort to lathicharge and firing in the air to control violence.

Mr Ilaiah's body was shifted to Narsampet for post-mortem, amid tight security.
