Comprehensive plan mooted for sports infrastructure in J

Srinagar, Jun 26 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government is contemplating to formulate a comprehensive special plan for expansion of sports infrastructure in the state.

This was announced by state Youth Services and Sports Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed while chairing a meeting of the sports association here.

Reiterating that the Ghulam Nabi Azad government was committed to promoting sports activities in every nook and corner of the state, he said Jammu and Kashmir has already produced sportspersons of repute in every field.

The expansion of sports infrastructure base would further help in harnessing the hidden talent, he added.

Mr Sayeed said the first priority of the state government was to upgrade the sports infrastructure at the district level.

He said orders have been already issued for repair and renovation of damaged sports infrastructure in the Valley.

The minister also asked the officials to provide equipment to all the sportspersons as per their demand and assured them that budgetary allocation would be released well in time.

About the construction of a youth hostel in Gulmarg for which the land had already been identified, Mr Sayeed said he would seek early release of funds from the Union Sports Ministry.

''There is a dire need of a youth hostel for skiers at Gulmarg as they face accommodation problem due to heavy rush of tourists,'' he added.
