Bomb hoax paralyses work in Surat LIC office

Surat, June 26 (UNI) Panic prevailed in a LIC office here today and its functioning was disrupted for about four hours, after police at the Chowk Bazaar station received a hoax call of a bomb in the corporation's division office.

The Chowk Bazar police station received an anonymous call at around 1050 hrs following which a bomb squad and sniffer dogs were pressed into service at the LIC office, located opposite the Surat Municipal Corporation office.

Even after the five-storeyed office premises was vacated and a thorough search conducted, nothing was found, police said.

This is the fourth bomb hoax incident for the LIC office here.

''Twice we ourselves have received the call and two times it was received by Chowk bazar police,'' LIC manager (office services) V R Shah alleged.

He also said they will file a complaint with the Commissioner of Police, as the hoax calls created disruption in work, leading to losses.

Meanwhile, police said the matter was under investigation.
