AMMA to give financial assistance to more artistes

Kochi, June 26 : The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) have decided to give financial assistance of Rs 2,000 per month to 18 more artistes.

Addressing a press conference here yesterday after the annual general body meeting of the association here, AMMA President Innocent and Secretary Mohan Lal said the association, which was presently giving financial assistance to 33 old or ailing artistes would increase it to 51.

''We would like to give the assistance to all needy artistes and also to increase the quantum to Rs 5,000 per month in due course,'' Mr Mohan Lal said.

Earlier, Innoncent and Mohan Lal were unanimously re-elected as president and hon. secretary of AMMA at the general body meeting.

While Nedumudi Venu and Dileep were elected vice-presidents, Edavella Babu was elected joint secretary and Mukesh as treasurer.

A ten-member executive committee was also elected.

Mr Innocent said the AMMA had decided to produce a multi-starrer film, directed by Joshi, to raise funds for its artistes assistance scheme.

The association would also bring out an annual souvenir from this year to highlight its activities, he added.
