Amaron-NK Racing Academy to be set up in Coimbatore
Chennai, Jun 26 (UNI) Amara Raja, the leading battery maker and ace racer Narain Karthikeyan today announced the establishment of the ''Amaron-NK Racing Academy,'' the first of its kind in the country.
''This is the major step in Indian Motor sport and a significant step in the right direction to train our young drivers,'' Kathikeyan said, launching the new racing initiative here.
The virtual Academy, coming up in Karthikeyan's native Coimbatore, would help to identify, nurture and groom more Indian drivers and leverage existing racing infrastructure in the country, Amara Raja Managing Director Jayadev Galla said.
''We have been associated with Narain since his early racing days and he has made us very proud. We are strengthening our association with NK by extending our contract. The Academy is the next step of this association and our long-term committment to the promotion of motor-sport and motor-racing in the country from the junior school level,'' Mr Galla said.
Karthikeyan said they have already shortlisted 14 young drivers across the country, of whom, four would be shortlisted in a ''shoot-out'' for the Amaron Pro Racing and Bharat Petroleum's Speed Formula Racing to be held later this year.
