50 Tibetans barge into Chinese embassy, detained

New Delhi, Jun 26: About 50 Tibetans were detained by the police this afternoon after they tried to barge into the Chinese Embassy at Chanakyapuri area of New Delhi.

The demonstrators, which included some dressed as monks, clashed with the embassy guards after they tried to barge inside, according to sources.

Raising ''Free Tibet'' slogans and against the Chinese government for its imperialist policies, the agitationists also burnt Chinese flags.

The demonstrators also clashed with the police which tried to prevent them.

A senior police official told UNI that 50 of the protestors have been detained and process is on to take them into preventive custody.

''They were raising slogans and trying to enter the embassy forcefully. The incident took place at about 1200 hrs.'' Some of them were dressed as Buddhist monks, the officer added.

Demonstrators later said the protest was against the new rail link connecting Qinghai province with Tibetan capital Lhasa.

This, they allege, would further increase migration to Tibet by the Chinese which was trying its best to subjugate and trample upon their culture and heritage.
