Bangalore, June 25 (UNI) Describing the war room leak case as a major threat to the country's defence, Bharatiya Janata Party President Rajnath Singh today accused the CBI of having totally failed to nab those involved in it.

Talking to newspersons here, he pointed out that the CBI had conducted raids in connection with the case only four months after the first information report was filed. ''The delay was caused due to powerful people acting behind to destroy evidences and the CBI is not allowed to act independently,'' he added.

Mr Singh demanded convening of an all-party meeting to discuss about finding a better agency than the CBI to unearth the truth and punish the culprits.

He also wanted the Union Government to come out with facts and spell out the steps taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

The case related to allegations against certain officers and officials of the Navy, Army and the Defence Ministry that they had received illegal gratification for supplying secret doucments. The CBI had on Friday last conducted raids at 19 places in four ciites in connection with the case.

Mr Singh said the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre had withheld the testing of the Agni Missile for the last two years, cauing anxiety and concern among military planners and scientists and demanded an explanation from the Defence Minister in this regard.

Citing intelligence reports, Mr Singh said ''We are far behind Pakistan in the area of developing missiles. Pakistan has stocked more than 100 Chinese missiles which are of the size of nuclear warheads. China and North Korea are also far ahead of us. At present India is not bound by any law as it is not a signatory to the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and hence it should not lag behind,'' he added.
