UP producing spurious pesticide, alleges Raj Babbar

Varanasi, June 25 (UNI) Jan Dal convenor and cinema actor turned Lok Sabha MP Raj Babbar today alleged that 85 per cent of the pesticide being produced in Uttar Pradesh was ''spurious.'' Addressing a programme to mark the 96th death anniversary of Swami Sahajanand here, the Agra MP said that use of spurious pesticide in Andhra Pradesh had led to adverse impact on agriculture there, subsequently resulting in suicide by indebted farmers, in the want of proper compensation for the lost output.

''The same is going to happen with farmers of UP, if serious efforts were not made to stop the production and trade of spurious pesticide, ultimately casting a shadow on the lives of the state farmers,'' the leader, expelled from ruling Samajwadi Party, said.

Addressing the function former, SP leader from Bihar Daddan Pahalwan charged the Mulayam Singh Yadav government with diverting funds meant for development of East UP to other parts of the state.
