Six militants among eight killed, 4 ultras surrender in J

Srinagar, June 25 (UNI) Six militants and two security personnel were killed while four ultras surrendered in Jammu and Kashmir since last evening, an official spokesman said today.

He said two militants were killed in an encounter at Dardsun in Kralpora area of the frontier district of Kupwara late last night during a search operation.

The encounter erupted when a search party of 17 Dogra and the Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was attacked by militants with automatic weapons, the spokesman added.

He said three AK rifles, one magazine and ten hand grenades were seized from the slain ultras whose identity was yet to established.

Security forces shot dead a militant at village Haran Chogal in Handwara area last night, he said.

The spokesman said a militant was killed in a joint operation by the SOG personnel and troops of 4 Para at Chandigam near Lolab in Kupwara district last night. The slain ultra was identified as Najeem Hyder Bhat alias Zuber, a resident of Bagh-i-Islam in Baramulla district, he added.

The spokesman said one AK rifle, three magazines and 70 rounds were seized from him.

He said a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and a militant were killed in an encounter at Kanipora in Kulgam area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district.

The gunfight erupted between the militants and troops of 9 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the CRPF early this morning, he added.

The spokesman said the slain ultra was identified as Mohammad Ibrahim Ganai, a resident of Mohammadpora in Kulgam area, and associated with the pro-Pakistan Hizbul Mujahideen. An AK rifle and a magazine were seized from his possession, he added.

Troops of 21 RR shot dead a militant at Haran village in Pohrupet area of Baramulla district today.

Unidentified gunmen abducted and killed a Jammu and Kashmir Police head constable attached with the security wing last night.

Gulzar Ahmed Sheikh, a selection grade constable, was abducted by some unidentified gunmen from his residence at Dadsar, Tral in south Kashmir district of Pulwama last night.

Gulzar's body with its throw slit, was today today recovered by the police from the nearby fields, the spokesman said.

Four ultras -- two of Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami, one each belonging to Muslim Janbaz Force and Hizbul Mujahideen -- surrendered before the security forces at different places in Doda district during the past 24 hours.

They handed over two AK rifles, one pistol, four hand grenades, four UBGL shells, one UBGL thrower, one wireless set, eight magazines and 215 rounds to the authorities, the spokesman said.
