Sensex notches up 12 pts on strong buying

Mumbai, June 25 : The BSE Sensex today opened in the green by 42 points at 10,443 on strong buying sentiments amongst the investors in the midcap sector.

Maintaining the previous rally, the sensitive index finally closed at 10,412.93, which was 11 points above the previous close of 10,401.30. Inspired buying in the midcap, metals and the IT sectors were the contributing factors for the up-swing at the sensex.

In the BSE sectoral indices, Metals was up by 2.29 per cent at 8482.55 points, mid-cap was up by 1.04 per cent to 4467.08, smallcap was up by 1.44 per cent to 5613.43, PSU was up by 0.61 per cent to 5032.80 points.

There were few losers too - the Teck indices declined by 0.02 per cent to 2434.13 points, whereas, the Bankex sector was down by 0.25 per cent to 4436.28 points.

The major gainers on the index were Tata Steel up by 3.93 per cent to Rs 532.40, ONGC was up by 1.67 per cent to Rs 1,113.55, Ranbaxy lab was up by 1.39 per cent to Rs 391.20, Wipro was up by 1.21 per cent to Rs 475.35, Hero Honda was up by 0.98 per cent to Rs 765.70, L&T was up by 0.86 per cent to Rs 2,179.40, Hindalco was up by 0.85 to Rs 172.45, Bajaj Auto was up by 0.68 per cent to Rs 2,705.90, Maruti Udyog was up by 0.41 per cent to Rs 775.25.

Besides the losers were- HDFC down by 1.45 per cent to Rs 739.00, SBI was down by 1.16 per cent to Rs 753.80, Bharti Airtel was down by 1.11 per cent to Rs 365.75, Reliance Energy was down by 1.10 per cent to Rs 463.95, BHEL was down by 0.67 per cent to 1,868.00, HDFC was down by 0.55 per cent to Rs 1,103.40, ACC was down by 0.52 per cent 782.25, Reliance Industries was down by 0.51 per cent to Rs 1,006.80, HLL was down by 0.29 per cent to Rs 220.90, and Grasim was down by 0.26 per cent to Rs 1,868.80.

The breadth in the broader market was in favour of 1,450 declines as against 574 declines out of total 2,063 shares traded today on the BSE.
