Sagar University celebrates diamond jubilee
Sagar, MP, June 25 (UNI) The University of Sagar, founded by noted jurist and educationist Dr Hari Singh Gour, will be celebrating its diamond jubilee in a grand manner on July 17 and 18.
The university was renamed as Dr Hari Singh Gour Vishwavidyalaya after its founder who donated his life-time saving of over Rs 2 crore in setting up the premier education institution in central India in 1946. Dr Gour, who was also founder Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, was its Vice Chancellor from 1946 till his death in 1949. He was also a member of the constituent assembly.
It was the 18th university in Indian continent and oldest in Madhya Pradesh. Earlier it attracted students from all over the country and 30 of its alumni and teachers had been Vice Chancellors of various universities, according to diamond jubilee celebration coordinator Prof S C Garg.
Besides a conference on ''Contribution and prospects of Dr Hari Singh Gour University in higher education'', exhibition of books published by its faculty in the past 60 years and rare photographs and honouring of teachers and employees appointed by the founder during 1946-49 are part of the diamond jubilee celebrations, when Governor Balram Jakhar will be the chief guest.
