Rain leads to sea erosion in DK district

Mangalore, June 25 : Following the incessant rain since last three days low lying areas in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district have been flodded with water, while sea erosion in several spots on the costs have become severe due to rain coupled with wind.

According to official sources incidents of caving in of earth had been reported at Yekkar and nearby area in Dakshina Kannada. The through traffic on the busy MG road in the city had been diverted due to the severe damage caused to the newly constructed concrete road.

Sea erosion had become severe at Ullal and Sasihithlu in Dakshina Kannada and Kemannu, Gujjara Bettu and Podukere in Udupi district.

The boulders kept to prevent the sea erosion at Gujjara Bettu had washed away and water was gushing inside. At least 10 houses in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district have been damaged partially while two houses damaged at Ullal besides uprooting of a few coconut tree due to sea erosion.

Meanwhile Udupi recorded 30 cm till 0800 hrs followed by 10 cm at Belthangadi.
