Order in rape case involving constable likely on June 28

Mumbai, June 25 (UNI) The proceedings in the case against suspended head constable Chandrakant Pawar, who allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl, have been completed before the court.

Public Prosecutor Lata Chedda said Additional Sessions Judge K U Chandiwal is likely to pronounce the judgement in the case on June 28.

Pawar, attached with the Sahar police station, was charged with raping a 15-year-old rag-picker in the vicinity of the police station itself on October 17 last year. He was caught by some passersby and handed over to the police.

The trial in the case was conducted on a day-to-day basis and a total of 12 witnesses, including the victim, were examined.

The same judge had sentenced former constable Sunil More to 12 years' rigorous imprisonmnent on April three this year for raping a teenaged girl in the Marine Drive police chowki.

The sentence was delivered in less than a year of the incident, which took place on April 22 last year.
