NLC staff to go on indefinite strike from July 4

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, June 25 : Employees of the public sector Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) will go on an indefinite strike from July four seeking the immediate withdrawal of the decision by the Centre to sell ten per cent stake in the company.

Speaking to newsmen here this morning, Labour Progressive Front (LPF) General Secretary Rajavanniyan said beginning tomorrow the 19,000-strong employees belonging to 17 unions will go on an agitation with the issue of notices.

On June 27, the employees will start wearing black badges. Gate meetings will be held on June 28 and 29 and road meetings organised on June 30.

Employees will go an fast on July one and two with the indefinite strike beginning on July four, he added.

The Centre decided to sell ten per cent stake in NLC and National Aluminium Company (NALCO) on June 22 with the exercise expected to mop up Rs 2,500 crore.
