Man, aged mother killed by son-in-law, two wounded seriously

Varanasi, June 25 (UNI) A man and his aged mother were allegedly beaten to death by his son-in-law and associates in the Amaut village here early today.

The daughter and wife of the deceased man suffered serious injuries in the attack under the Phoolpur police station area.

Police said here that Havaldar Pandey (50) had married off his daughter Poonam (23) with Ravi of Cholapur area some years ago, but due to dowry demands Poonam had returned to her father's house six months ago.

All attempts to send back Poonam to her in-laws house had been stalled by Ravi's dowry demands, police added.

Police said that early today Ravi alongwith seven others attacked Havaldar Yadav's house and beat to death Havaldar and his aged mother, besides wounding seriously Havaldar's wife Kiran Bala (45) and Poonam.

The assailants also looted cash and jewellery worth over Rs 1.6 lakh.

The seriously wounded mother-daughter duo have been admitted to the district hospital, while raids were being conducted to nab Ravi, who was still at large.
