Governor to honour 44 outstanding sportspersons tomorrow

Chandigarh, Jun 25 (UNI) Forty four sportspersons of Haryana will be honoured for their outstanding performance in national and international competitions at a function to be held here tomorrow.

Governor Dr A R Kidwai would confer the prestigious Bhim Puruskar upon five sportspersons and State Sports Awards upon other 39 sportspersons. A total sum of Rs 81.51 lakh would be given away as cash awards to these sports persons so as to encourage them.

State Sports Minister Phool Chand Mullana said that while Rs five lakh would be awarded to the recipients of Bhim Puruskar, Rs 45 lakh would be awarded to nine sports persons who had given excellent performance at the Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne. The remaining amount would be awarded to 30 other outstanding sports persons.

He said the Bhim Puruskar comprised Rs one lakh in cash, a Bhim Pratima, Ang Vastra, blazer, tie or scarf.

The Minister those upon whom Bhima Puruskar would be conferred include hockey player Jasjeet Kaur from Shahbad, Sunil Kumar from Chitrauli in Mahindergarh district, volleyball player Sanjay Kumar of Panchkula, Judo player Archana Judo player from Hisar and wrestler Neha Rathe from Fraidabad.
