Cloudburst in Chamba district of HP

Shimla, June 25 (UNI) large chunks of cultivated lands were washed away while a dozen houses were flooded due to a cloudburst in Naun and Haripur villages of Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh early this morning, official sources said.

The flash floods caused by cloudburst also disrupted water and power supply, irrigation channels and breached roads.

The cloudburst flooded Bhadram and Sahu Nallas and Gushing waters swept away houses, cowsheds, animals and automobiles but there was no loss of life.

Chamba Additional District Magistrate Chaman Singh said Sub-Divisional Magistrate had rushed to the spot and relief and rescue workers were in progress.

The total loss was yet to be assessed but unofficial sources and local people put the loss at over Rs one crore.

The Chamba-Sahu road had been washed at few places and the traffic had been restored by clearing the by-pass, while the Bharmour-Tissa road had been opened to traffic after removing the debris and uprooted trees.
