Sub-continent's largest flower garden coming up
Srinagar, June 23 : The largest flower garden in the sub-continent is coming up in Kashmir.
Named as Siraj Bagh, it will surpass the Tulip gardens of Holland in due course of time, an official spokesman said today.
The garden, a dream project of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, is coming in the backdrop of Zabarwan hills overlooking the world famous Dal Lake, he added.
The spokesman said the Siraj Bagh will be spread over an area of 2100 kanals (105 hectares) and was at present being developed over 670 kanals (33.5 hectares) in the first phase.
Its boundaries would get extended to the peripheral areas merging with the Botanical Garden, he added.
The garden would be yet another significant tourist attraction in the summer capital of the state and a milestone in the development of floriculture, parks and gardens, the spokesman said.
