Naxal leader Sudhakar safe

Vijayanagaram, Andhra Pradesh June 23 (UNI) The suspense over the dissappearance of CPI (Maoist) Central Committee member and Andhra-Orissa Border Maoist leader Sudhakar has ended with Sudhakar himself calling up media offices in Vijayanagaram district to inform about his safety.

It may be recalled that on June 21, relatives of Sudhakar, Krishna Murthy (assistant engineer in electrical department) and his wife Uma Devi were arrested by Vijayanagaram police and one AK 47 was seized from their place. On the same day there were reports that Sudhakar who came to meet them was in police custody and could be killed in an encounter. However, police said Sudhakar managed to escape from police custody.

When this revolutionary singer and balladeer Gaddar met Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy and said that there was danger to Sudhakar life, yesterday morning, Sudhakar's mother Saraswatamma filed a Habeaus Carpus petition in the High Court.

The Court directed the Advocate General to take steps so that Sudhakar would be produced in Court on Friday or to come before the Court with full details of Sudhakar's whereabouts.

Today, Sudhakar called up a few regional television news channels and explained that he was safe. He said that on Wednesday he went to meet Krishna Murthy and his wife to know about his mother's health.

At that time a Special Police party in civil dress tried to nab him at gun point.

In the melee, the police managed to seize his weapon an AK 47.

However, due to the alertness of local naxal dalam he could escape with minor injuries in an exchange of fire.

Sudhakar also told the news channels that Krishna Murthy and his wife were in no way connected to the naxal movement. He said that he could neither contact Gaddar, nor VIRASAM President Kalyan Rao as their phones were being tapped.
