Students warn of '66 revolt to resurface

Aizawl, Jun 23 : The Mizo Zirlai Pawl, Mizoram's apex students' body, has warned the Centre against possibility of recurrence of Mizoram insurgency which broke out in 1966 if an appropriate solution to the long standing border dispute between Assam and Mizoram is not found immediately.

The MZP leaders who have met top Central officials along with other North East Students Organisation (NESO) representatives, separately met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home minister Shivraj Patil to whom they urged the urgency of constituting a Boundary Commission on the Assam-Mizoram border dispute.

The Home Minister was quoted as saying in the meeting by an MZP source here that constituting a boundary commission is not a difficult task, but what is more important is an amicable agreement between the concerned states.

''Assam and Mizoram have equal and great responsibilities in this border dispute. A decision of the Centre's boundary commission may not be acceptable to all. In that case, an agreement between the concerned states is important,'' he was quoted.
