Mahajan,Brighu Phukan recalled

Shillong, Jun 23 : Cutting across party lines, Meghalaya MLAs today recalled the achievements and contribution made by two departed political leaders- Pramod Mahajan and Brighu Phukan-- for the cause of the country and paid glowing tributes to the memories of the departed souls.

Paying tributes to the Union Minister in-charge Parliamentary Affairs Pramod Mahajan and former Assam Home Minister Brighu Phukan in the Assembly, Chief Minister JD Rymbai (Congress) said the sudden demise of Mahajan, a top BJP strategist has created a vacuum in the Indian politics.

Rymbai said Phukan, a former All Assam Students' Union leader who led the anti-foreigner campaign in Assam with former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta is great loss to the people of Assam.

Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Martin M Danggo, who associated himself with the feelings expressed by the Leader of the House and members of the House expressed deep sorrow on the sudden demise of these two political stalwarts.

Former Chief Minister DD Lapang (Congress), Alexander Hek (BJP) and Manas Chaudhri (Independent) also paid rich tributes to these noble sons of India.

The members of the House also conveyed their heart felt condolence and deep sympathy to their family members.
