K P K Kumaran will be DMK's candidate for RS election

Chennai, June 23 (UNI) The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) today announced the candidature of Mr K P K Kumaran, former Managing Editor of ''Dinakaran'' Tamil daily, for July 13 biennial election to the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu assembly.

DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, in a statement here, said Mr Kumaran was nominated as the candidate on behalf of the DMK.

The vacancy was caused following the resignation of actor Sarath Kumar, who had resigned the seat, after quitting the DMK to join the All India Anna DMK (AIADMK) prior to the assembly elections in May.

The term of Sarath Kumar, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha on December 24, 2004, is due to expire on July 24, 2007.
