Govt plans to set up container depot
Chandigarh, June 23 : Haryana Warehousing Corporation annanced plans to set up container freight station at Palwal and Sonepat to cater to the needs of the exporters and importers of the area.
This was disclosed at an executive development programme organised for the officials of the corporation in Panchkula, near here.
Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary Naresh Gulati, who inaugurated the programme lauded the efforts of Warehousing Corporation for taking steps to update the knowledge of its staff.
Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Asha Sharma said that there was lot of scope to develop scientific storage and cold chain facilities for horticulture produce and the corporation should gear up its machinery to take up this challenge.
Also, there was a need to create container handling services around the National Capital.
She stressed the need for developing new technology and upgrading services of the Haryana Warehousing Corporation so as to compete with its contemporaries, especially the multi-national companies.
She appreciated the efforts being made by the the Corporation for the development of human resource and observed that it had been organising training programmes at its own level and also getting the staff trained by Central Warehousing Corporation, Indian Grain Management and Research Institute, Hapur and Haryana Institute of Public Administration so as to upgrade their knowledge.
Managing Director of the Corporation R K Ranga said that the Corporation has been aiming at diversification of its activities in view of the fast changing trends.
