Centre to set up 4 textile parks to revive NTC

Chennai, Jun 23: The Centre will set up four Integrated Textile Parks (ITPs) in Tamil Nadu, each at a cost of Rs 50 crore, under the new scheme launched for ITPs in August 2005 and also revive National Textile Corporation (NTC), Union Minister of State for Textiles E V K S Elangovan said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said under the scheme nine ITPs were already approved. Four of them would be set up in Cuddalore, Palladam, Erode and Tirupur.

He said a new scheme was formulated to revive the National Textile Corporation (NTC). Under the scheme after the closure of 65 unviable mills and transfer of two mills to the Government of Pondicherry, the NTC would be left with 52 viable mills.

Out of the 52 mills, 22 have been identified for modernisation.

The total cost of NTC rehabilitation scheme was about Rs 5267 crore.

In Tamil Nadu three units of the NTC were making profits, he added.
