BJP demands restoration of Doordarshan Punjabi in Philippines

Phagwara, June 23 (UNI) Punjab BJP President Avinash Rai Khanna has sought the Centre's intervention for restoration of frequency of Doordarshan Punjabi in the Philippines.

Talking to newsperons here today, Mr Khanna said a large number of Punjabis living in the Philippines wanted to keep abreast of the latest developments in their home-state and had paid the money to get signals of the DD Punjabi.

However, due to low frequency of the channel, the NRIs residing in Manila were being deprived of the Punjabi programmes, Mr Khanna said, urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Information Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi to ensure that the frequency of DD Punjabi in Manila was restored at the earliest.

Mr Khanna also expressed concern over the violence against NRI Punjabis in the Philippines, especially in the capital city of Manila.
