New Delhi, June 23 (UNI) Continuing its efforts to afford employment to ex-Servicemen in the corporate sector, the Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) has completed training of Army personnel in Hotel Management as part of the 'Welcom Jawan Project'.

Organised in collaboration with the ITC group under the aegis of DGR, the training saw the Army personel learning about the different fields of the hospitality industry for six months. Many amongst the trainees have plans to start their own projects including heritage-type hotels in various parts of the country such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Rajasthan.

Director General Resettlement (DGR) Major General Harwant Krishan gave away 'Certificates of Completion in Hotel Management' to the graduating Army personnel at a valedictory function at Maurya Sheraton Hotel here today.

Also present on the occasion was Mr Dipak Haksar, General Manager of ITC Maurya Sheraton.

In order to maintain a youthful profile of the Armed Forces, approximately 60,000 service personnel are retired/released every year at a comparatively young age. Majority of the service personnel at the time of retirement are at an age where thay have numerous unfinished domestic responsibilities which necessitate their taking up a second occupation.

The Directorate General Resettlement (DGR) -- an Inter-Service Organisation functioning directly under the Defence Ministry -- looks after all matters connected with resettlement and welfare of Ex-servicemen (ESM) and their dependants.
