Aged leopard dead at Kanpur zoo

Kanpur, June 23 (UNI) Moti, a 22-year-old leopard, died of old age at the Kanpur Zoological Park here last night, zoo authorities today saod.

Kanpur zoo director R Hemant Kumar said Moti had kept in good health despite his old age, adding that a leopard generally lives 17 to 18 years.

With Moti's sudden demise, the numbers of leopards has reduced to 7, including three females.

The leopard was brought to Kanpur zoo at the age of 10 from Chamoli, but was unable to take normal diet in absence of teeth and was kept on liquid diet.

The animal had been cremated, Mr Kumar informed.

Meanwhile, the zoo is providing adequate protection to animals in view of the blistering and sultry weather.
