9 bogies of goods train derails
Mysore, June 22 (UNI) Nine bogies of a Mangalore-bound goods train has derailed about ten km from Hassan in Karnataka late last night.
South Western Railway sources told UNI today that the goods train, with 58 bogies, was carrying iron orefines to Mangalore from Sosale junction at Chikkajajur in Chitradurga district when the mishap occurred. The orefines were meant for export to Japan and other countries.
A major mishap was averted as the derailment had occurred just before the Yegachi bridge. If it had occurred on the bridge all the bogies would have drowned in the river, the sources said.
The track up to a stretch of one km had been completely affected due to the derailment. A railway guard, Kailash, had sustained injuries in the incident and was being treated at the Hassan hospital.
SWR Divisional Manager D Govinda Kumar, along with other officials, visited the spot.
The sources said railway cranes had been brought from Hubli to shift the derailed bogies from the track which was opened just ten days ago for goods traffic much to the relief of the business community. The track was expected to be ready in a couple of days.
