US Senate rejects quick withdrawal from Iraq

WASHINGTON, June 22 (Reuters) The US Senate today defeated a plan pushed by a group of Democrats calling for withdrawing US combat forces from Iraq by next July.

The Republican-controlled Senate rejected that measure 86-13, and was set to vote on another plan more broadly backed by Democrats to start the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq this year, but without setting a deadline for completion.
