Chennai, Jun 22 (UNI) Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today accused the ruling DMK of ''letting down'' more than 10 lakh farmers by denying them fresh farm loan facilities.

Talking to newspersons at the party headquarters here, she said the farmers could not take up Kuruvai cultivation as the government failed to make available money to the cooperative banks to enable them to distribute fresh loans to the farmers.

She said the government had promised to make available Rs 1000 crore to the cooperative banks for issuing loans to the farmers for kuruvai cultivation, but had so far only distributed Rs 106 crore.

While a sum of Rs 1000 to Rs 1200 crore was required, the DMK government had only released Rs 106 crore and cheated the farmers, Ms Jayalalithaa alleged.

Condmening the government for ''letting down'' the farmers, she said as announced, the state government, which waived farm loans to the tune of Rs 7,000 crore should give the amount to the cooperative institutions, she said.
