Ten HNLC activists arrested in Agartala
Shillong, Jun 22 (UNI) The banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council today suffered a major setback after ten of its cadres, including a senior member, were arrested by Tripura police.
Police sources from Agartala told UNI here over the phone that all the suspected HNLC militants were nabbed at Hirachura tea garden under Kailaswar police station in Tripura after they crossed over to India from Bangladesh.
However, the police did not recover any arms or ammunition from the militants. All suspected HNLC militants arrested are in police custody and are being interrogated, police said.
Meghalaya police Superintendent (Additional) East Khasi Hills, H Khrakhrang, confirming the arrest said, West Syngkli, a senior member of the outfit was one amongst those arrested today.
Mr Kharkrang said the state police is keeping in touch with Tripura police to formally handover the militants to Meghalaya.
