SC extends stay against Naglamachhi removal till July 17

New Delhi, June 22 (UNI) The Supreme Court today extended till July 17 the stay against removal of slum dwellers in Naglamachhi JJ cluster on Ring road near Pragati Maidan.

A vacation bench comprising Justices A R Lakshmanan and Altamas Kabir extended the stay granted by Delhi High Court to enable petitioner Ram Niwas Gupta and others to approach the apex court.

Counsel for the petitioner earlier pleaded that the petitioners were protected by section 3 of Delhi Law (Special Provisions) Act which puts a one year moratorium against removal of unauthorised constructions and slum dwellers in Delhi.

The main case is also listed for hearing on July 17.
