Rain cools Chennai

Chennai, Jun 22 (UNI) Chennaiites and people in several parts of Tamil Nadu, who have been sweating under oppressive heat for the past two weeks, heaved a sigh of relief as the South West monsoon become active again.

Weather office sources here said the monsoon has become active over Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, following which, the city and other parts of the state, recieved showers this afternoon. The average temperature was 37 deg c.

The sources said that yesterday's trough, which extended from Vidharbha to South Tamil Nadu, now runs from coastal Andhra Pradesh to South Peninsula across coastal Tamil Nadu.

Under this influence, isolated showers and thunder showers are likely to occur in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry during the next 48 hrs. The city and its suburbs would be generally cloudy. There are possibilities of shower at one or two places, the sources added.
