Pylee, Ramaswamy, Mazumdar Named Research Professors
New Delhi, June 22 (UNI) Dr M V Pylee, Prof N S Ramaswamy and Dr Veena Mazumdar were today named new National Research Professors by the Human Resource Development Ministry in recognition of their unique contributions in their respective fields.
Dr Pylee is an eminent Professor of Political-jurisprudence, Prof Ramaswamy, an eminent Management Specialist, and Dr Mazumdar, an eminent Socialist, a Ministry announcement said.
The scheme was instituted in 1949 to honour distinguished academics and scholars in recognition of their valuable contribution to knowledge.
Persons of real eminence who have attained the age of 65 years and who have made outstanding contribution in their respective fields and are still capable of further productive research are considered for appointment as National Research Professors.
Their appointments have been made on the recommendation of the Committee under the National Research Professorship Scheme comprising the Prime Minister and the Ministers of Human Resource Development, Finance and Home.
Past honorees include CV Raman, Dr S N Bose, Satyajit Ray, Ustad Bismillah Khan and Pandit Ravi Shankar.
The honour was bestowed recently on cardiac surgeon M S Valiathan, litterateur Mahasveta Devi and theatre personality Habib Tanvir.
