'CII to encourage new product devp in industry'

New Delhi, June 22: President APJ Abdul Kalam has asked CII to encourage R&D, improve design and form a strategic approach to new product development in the Indian industry.

President Kalam, during his meeting with the CII President R Seshasayee and Director General S S Mehta last evening, appreciated the fact that CII was looking at target oriented focused tasks with specified time frames.

Mr Seshasayee briefed the Dr Kalam on CII's four missions on manufacturing innovation, knowledge and skills development, inclusiveness and sustainability. He added that CII will focus on re-positioning India as a creative and innovative product developer.

This would be complemented by the skills development mission that will leverage e-learning and technology for developing marketable skills.
