New members take oath in Karnataka Council
Bangalore, Jun 22: Five of the six members, recently elected to the Karnataka Legislative Council from teachers and graduates constituencies, took oath of office today.
Deputy Chairman Sachidananda Khot administered the oath of office and secrecy to the four BJP members, Higher Education Minister D H Shankara Murthy, Medical Education Minister Ramachandragowda, Manohar Maski and Mr Ganesh Karnik and Y A Narayanswamy (Ind).
Mr Marithibbegowda of the Congress did not take part in the ceremony.
The biennial elections to the Council was held on June 17 to fill three seats each from the Graduates and Teachers constituencies.
Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Parliament Minister Basavaraj Horatti and Leader of the Opposition in the Council H K Patil welcomed the new members.
Mr Murthy, Mr Ramachandragowda and Mr Marithibbegowda had been re-elected to the Council.
